So what do you make of Bryant Gumbel playing the race card in an HBO commentary?
It wasn't surprising -- Gumbel has done this before -- but it wasn't necessary, either.
Gumbel -- on HBO's Real Sports -- said, ``Laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that make the Winter Games look like a GOP convention.''
At Dan Marino's charity event this week, Gumbel defended his comments. ``People don't understand the English language. [My point is] it's really hard to collect a bunch of Winter Olympic athletes and say these are the world's greatest athletes. Period.'
Miami Herald
Nice touch Herald.
Gumbel defends his racist remarks and the Herald basically goes along by saying "it wasn't neceessary"
Can you imagine if a white................................Oh, never mind.

THERE ARE SOME OF US..............
that understand that this entire port-lease issue is not as big a deal as is being breathlessly talked about.
Many of our ports are managed, in part, by foreign nations and or companies owned by foreign nations. This is not something new. China, as an example, manages part of the Port of New York and the entire Panama Canal. While these ports are managed by outside entities, the security is the responsibility of the Coast Guard, US Customs, and local port authorities. I have read nothing that tells me this would change if the proposed DPW deal were to go through.
So what's the big deal?
Everyone knows that LibDems, along with the MSM, anxiously await every bit of news that comes out from the Bush Administration. For six years, their fixation with anything that could be anti-Bush has been paramount to the point of being full hysteria.
For six years, Pres. Bush has been attacked from all angles and on many issues, but the one issue he's been pure Teflon on is the War on Terror. That's changed, and Pres. Bush is to blame.
As anyone that follows Washington knows: EVERYTHING GETS OUT.
Did this administration think that the port-lease agreement wouldn't get out? And once it got out, did they not think that it would cause the fire-storm we are now seeing? Was anyone thinking?
So, the word gets out and what happened next truly amazed me.
With an obvious chip on his shoulder, Pres. Bush comes out and tackles the situation personally!
Not only does he become the "front-man" he let's it known that he'll VETO any legislation opposing the deal. Now it's become personal and blood, Bush blood, is in the water. AMAZING!
Why Pres. Bush has taken this course is baffling. We're not talking Reagan and The Cold War, where talking Bush and an insignificant port-lease deal. Why take this on personally?
Has this administration taken on the "I don't give a f*ck" attitude? The "I know that no matter what I say or do, I'm going to get blasted so screw you" attitude? Did we get a glimpse of this last week when VP Cheney thumbed his nose at the MSM and only talked to Fox after the hunting accident?
Has this administration finally grown a pair? I think they have. Unfortunately, I wish it would have been over something with more substance like....................................illegal immigration.

WAY TO GO CNN!!
On the publishing of the Mohammed cartoons, CNN said:
CNN is not showing the negative caricatures of the likeness of the Prophet Mohammed because the network believes its role is to cover the events surrounding the publication of the cartoons while not unnecessarily adding fuel to the controversy itself.
OK, you don't want to add fuel to the fire, and yet today, CNN runs this!
Forget the fact that this happened 2 years ago and that the people responsible have gone to trial and are in jail.

SAY ISLAM IS PEACEFUL......OR WE KILL YOU.
How long will the West remain silent while the Islamofascist burn buildings, kill people, and threaten bloggers all because they don't like our freedom of speech??
Also shocking, is the MSM resistance to stand-up for their sacred right of freedom of the press and speech.
The MSM championed free speech when Mapplethorpe dunked a crucifix in urine and called it art. When a picture of the Virgin Mary covered in elephant dung was openly displayed in print and TV, it was also called art. Now we see just about all the media outlets cowering and refusing to print one of the most "controversial" cartoons because they don't want to offend anyone.
When is the MSM concerned about offending anyone? And when does offending someone trump freedom of speech?
The MSM better wake up!!!

WE HAVE A NEW HEAD COACH
My beloved Raiders have Art Shell as Head Coach.
What some folks have to say:
Tim Brown: "If they think Al Davis has just reached back for an old Raider because nobody else wanted the job, and they don't think it's going to be a serious deal, they're in for a rude awakening," Brown said. "When he walks into the film room, he's going to want them to sit up straight and hush up, and they're not used to that."
Kirk Morrison: "Pretty much, everyone's excited about it," said linebacker Kirk Morrison, who grew up in Oakland. "Especially (because) he's been there before and was successful. I think that people are going to buy into that."Who better to coach a team than a guy who's been in the organization, who's a Raider, who's hard-nosed tough, stands up for what his team really is all about?"
John Madden:"I am happy for Art and am happy for the organization. He is the right choice.
Jack Tatum: "I think it is great. Art will help bring some of the swagger back to the Raiders. it will be like old times."
I like this choice. Now the last piece of the coaching puzzle will be deciding on the OC.
RAIDER NATION SLEEPS A LITTLE BETTER NOW.

Bryant Gumble / Real Sports / HBO
Below is an e-mail that I just sent HBO
Last night I watched the Feb. edition of Real Sports with Bryant Gumble. I found the show interesting and enjoyable however; I was totally taken aback at the last segment when Mr. Gumble signs off with a short editorial. This editorial dealt with the absence of Black athletes at the Winter Olympics and how, in his (Gumble's) opinion, rendered the Games meaningless and not worth watching. At first I though this had to be some sort of joke. It wasn't. Mr. Gumble followed this with a comment that there are so many whites in this Olympics "it looks like a GOP convention"
In less than 20 seconds, Mr. Gumble not only exposed himself as a holder of a Royal Flush in the "racial card" game, but proceeded to blatantly politicize what was a good sports program.
With idiotic and worthless comments like those, you have placed yourself in the company of CNN, CBS, The New York Times, and USATOday. All are losing readers, viewers, subscribing members, and have huge losses of revenue.

I have searched for the transcript with zero success. If anyone can get it, I would appreciate you posting it.

DIGNITY HAS LEFT THE BUILDING
When does a funeral become an opportunity to attack one of the invited guests?
Invite a couple of Liberal Democrats that have an ax to grind with the guest and it's GO TIME!
Exhibit A.
Bashing President Bush remained a constant theme at the funeral service for Coretta Scott King. Former President Jimm Carter made the crowd roar after he compared King’s wiretapping to Bush’s terrorist surveillance program:
CARTER: It was difficult for them [the King family] then personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated as they became the target of secret government wiretaps.
In the latter part of his speech, Carter said that not enough was done and is being done for those who suffered from the disaster created by Hurricane Katrina.
Excuse me President Carter, but those wiretaps were authorized by Attorney General Bobby Kennedy.
Exhibit B.
The outspoken Rev. Lowery, co-founder of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, ripped into President Bush during his short speech, ostensibly about the wife of Martin Luther King.
“She extended Martin’s message against poverty, racism and war. She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar. We know now that there were no weapons of mass destruction over there,” Lowery said.
“But Coretta knew, and we know,” Lowery continued, “That there are weapons of misdirection right down here,” he said, nodding his head toward the row of presidents past and present. “For war, billions more, but no more for the poor!”
That folks, is a classy bunch.
